HINTON, Alta. - Several people are in hospital after a bus carrying an Edmonton minor hockey team crashed Sunday near Hinton, Alta.

Ken Arndt, a team director with Edmonton's South Side Athletic Club, says the AA Midget team was on its way to a game in Hinton when the accident happened.

Arndt says six players are in hospital with broken bones and possible concussions, and one of the players may have a broken back.

He says the driver of the bus was also injured, but he wasn't aware of his condition.

Police say the chartered bus was on Highway 16, about 25 kilometres east of Hinton, when it slid off, rolled in the median, and came to rest upside-down in the opposite lane.

They say weather conditions were poor at the time.

Arndt says it's been a difficult month for the club.

Earlier this month, a 16 year old player died after getting hit in neck with a puck.

Hockey Edmonton officials said Kyle Fundytus was blocking a shot during a game when he was struck, dying later in hospital of his injuries.
