Strapped for time but looking for a quick morning update after the long weekend? Well, we've got it.

Here are the 5 things you need to know this Tuesday: a recap of the first full day of the federal election; Environment Canada confirmed a tornado touched down in Ontario on Sunday; a man was arrested in Ottawa after committing a lewd act to the National War Memorial; Franck Gervais, who pleaded guilty to unlawfully wearing a military uniform despite not serving in the military, is expected to be sentenced today; and an app from Saskatchewan is aiming to make finding odd jobs a lot easier.

1. Election 2015: On the first full day of the federal election campaign, Conservative Leader Stephen Harper promised to continue to push for a Trans-Pacific Partnership and boost the trades tax credit. Justin Trudeau, meanwhile, was in the Conservative stronghold of Calgary, taking aim at Harper’s economic record. NDP Leader Thomas Mulcair did not hold any events on Monday, but is expected to campaign in Montreal Tuesday morning. For complete coverage, bookmark our election page.

2. Dangerous storms: Environment Canada has confirmed that an EF-2-strength tornado touched down in southwestern Ontario on Sunday. The twister was part of a series of intense thunderstorms that rolled through the province, bringing with it marble-sized hail, intense rain and lightning in many areas. The greatest damage may have been incurred in the tiny village of Teviotdale, where a tornado "significantly damaged" two homes.

3. War memorial arrest: A 22-year-old man was arrested in Ottawa after he was allegedly seen committing an obscene act to the National War Memorial. Officers say bystanders saw the man climb the statue and begin the lewd activity late Sunday night. Veteran's Affairs Minister Erin O'Toole has condemned the act.

4. Sentencing for 'fake soldier': Franck Gervais, who pleaded guilty to unlawfully wearing a military uniform and medals during last year's Remembrance Day ceremony in Ottawa, is expected to be sentenced Tuesday. The Quebec man pleaded guilty in March to two charges for donning a military uniform, despite not serving in the military, and for wearing medals he didn't earn.

5. Helping in the job hunt: A new app launched by a pair of Saskatoon entrepreneurs is looking to make job hunting a lot easier. The app cuts out the middleman and allows employers to post jobs and relevant details. The pair had the idea to create an app after moving to Saskatoon from Nigeria and struggled to find work.
