For more than a century celebrity romances have fired up and fizzle out like proverbial Roman candles.

Now 31-year-old reality star Kim Kardashian has joined the club after just 72 days of marriage and after a $10-million wedding extravaganza on the E! Network that lined the newlyweds' pockets with $17.9 million.

Outsiders may never really know all the reasons the drove Kardashian to file for divorce from Kris Humphries on Oct. 31.

Kardashian cited "irreconcilable differences." The move has reportedly blind-sided Humphries, 26, a basketball forward with the New Jersey Nets.

But the signs of trouble were always there.

1. No time together

Most couples can't tear themselves apart during the early days of marriage. That was not the case with Kardashian and Humphries.

"They haven't spent any time together," according to Hollywoodlife.com reporter, Chloe Melas.

"Most of their dates were filmed for ‘Kourtney and Kim Take New York.' A lot of people thought that this was just too much for the camera," said Melas.

2. Career conflicts

The NBA's lockout, which has left Humphries unemployed, may have also contributed to Kardashian's displeasure with her new husband.

As one anonymous source reported, "Their careers caused tension. Kim has been juggling TV shows, perfumes and clothing ranges while Kris has been sitting at home twiddling his thumbs."

Melas said: "She feels he was using her."

According to Melas, Kardashian wanted Humphries to stick with basketball and leave Hollywood to her.

3. Location, location

Humphries desire to move back with his wife to his hometown of Chaska, Minn. may have also scared Kardashian off.

Kardashian reportedly wanted to remain in Los Angeles, where the money – and her family -- is.

The conflict over this decision was evident in a clip from Kardashian's new TV series. In it she asked her husband how she could maintain her career in Minnesota. Humphries replied with these words: "By the time you have kids and they're in school, no one will probably care about you."

4. Kim makes more money

Humphries' finances have taken a hit since his marriage to Kardashian.

His spokeswoman confirmed that he had been the victim of an alleged fraud, after investing thousands of dollars with one of his wedding guests. That guest has since been arrested.

But that loss won't leave Humphries, or Kardashian, on the street.

Humphries has made $16 million in his seven-year NBA career.

The couple's net worth is also estimated at $35 million. Unfortunately for Humphries' ego, the lion's share of that fortune belongs to Kardashian.

5. Is their love for real?

Critics have long speculated that this couple's union was nothing more than a publicity stunt.

"There have been some reports saying that E! shopped around for a boyfriend for Kim," Melas said.

Pastor Joel Johnson, the man who married Kardashian and Humphries, does not agree.

"I spoke with Pastor Joel," said Melas.

"He met Kim, only for an hour. But he said it was a real marriage with feelings," she said.

Reconciliation may not be out of the question. After all, "Anything is possible. This is the Kardashian world," said Melas. Just last week Kardashsian said this about her marriage: ‘It's always tough when you're apart." Sounds like it was just as tough when Kim and Kris were together.
