CAMPBELLTON, N.B. - Police in New Brunswick have charged 17 people and seized almost 5000 bottles and cans of beer in an effort to slow down the trafficking of illegal quantities of liquor from Quebec.
By law, the maximum amount of liquor that can be imported into New Brunswick from another province is one bottle of wine or hard liquor or 24 bottles of beer.
Sgt. Stephen Dibblee of the Campbellton RCMP says the smallest seizure was of an importer bringing in six cases of beer, and the largest seizure was 45 cases of beer.
Those who break the law are subject to an immediate fine of $292.50 and their liquor is seized and destroyed.
