DETROIT -- A preliminary hearing has been set for Detroit Tigers minor league pitcher Evan Reed on a sexual assault charge.

Reed is accused of sexually assaulting a woman at a downtown Detroit hotel. He's charged with third-degree criminal sexual conduct.

Reed's probable cause hearing is set for Thursday morning in a Detroit court. A not guilty plea was entered for him last month during an arraignment.

Reed appeared in 27 games for the Tigers before being assigned to the Triple-A Toledo Mud Hens.

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy says the 28-year-old Reed had sex with a 45-year-old woman he met at a bar March 30. Worthy says the woman was incapacitated after drinking and unable to give consent.

Reed's lawyer says the sex was consensual, and Reed calls the allegations "absurd."
