TORONTO -- Chad Kackert won't be making his return to the Toronto Argonauts this weekend against the Edmonton Eskimos.

The veteran running back had his first on-field practice with the Argos since being added to the practice roster Saturday.

Kackert retired on the opening day of training camp to become Toronto's strength-and-conditioning coach after suffering a broken left ankle prior to the 2013 East Division final that required surgery.

Head coach Scott Milanovich says the Argos will take a cautious approach regarding if and when Kackert can return to the lineup but added Kackert won't play Saturday when Toronto hosts Edmonton.

The five-foot-eight, 206-pound Kackert signed with Toronto as a free agent in 2010, appearing in 24 games over three seasons.

He ran for 1,467 yards and 12 touchdowns on 228 carries while adding 50 catches for 454 yards and two TDs.

Kackert was named the MVP of Toronto's 35-22 win over the Calgary Stampeders in the 100th Grey Cup on Nov. 25, 2012, rushing for 133 yards on 20 carries at Rogers Centre.
