Game-changing HBO series such as 'Six Feet Under,' 'Deadwood' and 'Sex and the City' will soon be available on demand through on your TV and mobile devices for the first time in Canada.

Bell Media announced plans Thursday to launch a new streaming service dedicated to premium television series and headlined by a number of classic HBO shows.

Codenamed 'Project Latte,' the subscription service will be available to every TV provider in Canada and promises to offer high-quality TV shows not available through any other service. Once it goes live, the service will be available on traditional set-top boxes from participating TV providers, Bell Media said in a news release.

'Project Latte' will also be available through smartphone apps, desktop computers and other digital platforms.

“Project Latte addresses a significant gap in the Canadian TV system and allows TV providers to greatly enhance the value they provide to their clients,” Bell Media President Kevin Crull said in the news release.

“If you like TV, you will love Project Latte's program lineup,” added Mike Cosentino, Senior Vice-President, Programming.

The full ‘Project Latte’ catalogue has yet to be released, but it expects to offer 10,000 hours of TV content featuring shows from “many world-class content partners.” Ten per cent of that lineup will be filled out by an exclusive partnership with HBO to stream all of its off-air scripted shows in Canada. That lengthy list of hits includes the likes of ‘The Sopranos,’ ‘Entourage,’ ‘Oz’ and ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm.’

‘Project Latte’ will also give viewers access to hundreds of titles from HBO Films, HBO Documentaries and HBO’s extensive catalogue of stand-up comedy specials from the likes of Robin Williams, Ellen DeGeneres, Louis C.K. and Sarah Silverman.

The rest of the ‘Project Latte’ lineup will be unveiled in the weeks to come, Bell Media says. The service’s official name will be made public at launch.

Bell Media is the parent company of CTV News.
