Residents took cover as at least two tornadoes were reported in southern Manitoba on Monday night, with heavy rain and hail also pounding the region.
One twister touched down near Tilston, close to the Saskatchewan and American borders at about 9 p.m. Central Time.
Environment Canada later said they received reports of a second tornado near the town of Virden, as well as rotating wall clouds and funnel clouds in southeastern Saskatchewan.
Regina, meanwhile was deluged with 73 millimetres of rain, which caused localized flash flooding in some streets.
Saskatchewan had tornado warnings lifted by 11 p.m. and Manitoba had the warnings lifted by 12:30 a.m. Central Time.
"Radar indicates rotation continues to weaken with the thunderstorms over western Manitoba. Heavy rain and strong wind gusts are still occurring but tornadoes are no longer expected," Environment Canada said in a release after the warnings were lifted.
Several members of storm-chasing groups tweeted videos and pictures of the violent storm.
