SURREY, B.C. - The mayor of Surrey, B.C., says the police have done a considerable amount of work investigating the murder of a hockey mom, but she says it's not clear whether they're any closer to a breakthrough in the case.

It's been more than four months since 53-year-old Julie Paskall was attacked in the parking lot of a community arena as she arrived to pick up her son from a hockey game on Dec. 31.

Surrey Mayor Dianne Watts says police have made significant progress eliminating suspects and identifying potential persons of interest.

However, Watts says she's been given no indication that an arrest or charges are imminent.

Even before Paskall's death, Watts had formed a task force to figure out how to curb the murder rate in Surrey, which ended the year with 25 murders.

Watts says there has already been progress, including increased police patrols, and she believes the community of Newton, where the murder took place, is safer today than it was when Paskall was attacked.
