Two Ottawa sisters were found stabbed to death inside an Ottawa home on Friday night, and police have since arrested the victims’ brother in connection with the deaths.

Police say Nasiba A-Noor, 29, and Asma A-Noor, 32, were found dead in a residence in the city’s south end Friday around 9 p.m.

Investigators later arrested the victims’ brother, 29-year-old Musab A-Noor. He is facing one count of first-degree murder and one count of second-degree murder.

Det. Kevin Jacobs, the lead investigator on the case, said police are still working to determine a motive.

Neighbours identified the residents in the home as friendly, quiet people. Many said they were shaken by the deaths.

“It’s frightening, especially when you have small children, you don’t feel safe. Hopefully it’s isolated,” said neighbour Aniff Seenadh, who said he’s considered moving after the incident.

“It’s a scary concept, being right next door,” said another neighbour.

Police continued to investigate a wooded area on Saturday, but the wintry weather has complicated the search.

“There’s been a bit of a snowfall, so it makes the job a little bit longer to do. But they’re still out there doing it,” said Insp. John Medeiros of the Ottawa Police Service.

The Major Crime Unit is investigating.

The deaths mark Ottawa's 23rd and 24th homicides of the year.
