Peter Gould has pretty much everything a guy could want -- a motorcycle, a car and a big-screen TV in his man cave.
But what the 47-year-old man from London, Ont. really wants is a girlfriend. And so, fed up with the trivialities of online dating, he’s taken matters into his own hands.
Gould has posted a large sign in his front yard that sums up his relationship status in a few brief lines: “My girlfriend left, I don’t like bars/dating sites, new g-friend needed.”
His email and phone number are attached, followed by some fine-print: “Must be 35 – 47.”
While Gould admits the sign idea began as a dare amongst friends, he says he’s serious about finding love – something he’s found challenging in the digital age.
“I’ve given up on dating sites and, as I’ve said, I don’t like going to bars. So I’m not really sure how to meet anyone nowadays,” he told CTV London.
The self-described “blue collar guy” says his perfect match would be someone who “enjoys having a beer” with him at the end of a long day. Bonus points if she’s a Toronto Maple Leafs fan.
As for Gould’s selling points, he says he does his own laundry and keeps his house neat and tidy.
Gould paid $200 to have the sign on his lawn for a month. If Mrs. Right doesn’t bite right away, the professional renovator plans on attaching a photo of himself dressed up in a black cowboy hat.
And when it comes to Valentine’s Day, Gould says he knows how to lay on the romance, describing to CTV London a time he charmed a former love.
“I had cooked a nice dinner, put little tea light candles all the way through the house to a path of roses and wine. I guess that would be probably the best I’ve done,” he said.
