A Nova Scotia woman says she’s at her “wits’ end” after inheriting a property that came with at least 15 cats.

Lisa Donovan inherited her grandfather’s home in North Sydney, N.S., after he died a few weeks ago.

The man loved cats, so he had allowed strays to take up residence in his backyard shed and barn. Eventually, strangers began dumping unwanted cats on his property.

Donovan estimates there are now between 10 and 15 adult cats plus six or seven kittens.

She approached the SPCA but was told they won’t deal with “feral” cats.

Carmen Dunn from the Feral and Abandoned Cats Society said the local charity has neutered some of the cats, but there is not much more they can do.

“We have cats that are not very social, not easily touched or handled by humans and not generally suitable for adoption into a home,” she said.

Donovan is trying to find homes for the cats anyway. So far, she hasn’t had any takers.
