HALIFAX -- The Defence Department says military police in Halifax have arrested a member of the Armed Forces following an investigation into allegations of inappropriate comments posted online from department computers.

A military spokesman says the investigation started Oct. 6 and the arrest was made Tuesday at Canadian Forces Base Shearwater in Halifax.

Maj. Yves Desbiens issued a statement saying no charges have been laid.

He says the identity of the military member is protected by the Privacy Act.

The statement says the allegations of unauthorized use of the department's information system are still under investigation, but there are no other details.
