A night at a downtown Victoria motel turned nightmarish for one couple who woke up to find a strange, drunk man in their bed.

Joanie Blair and her girlfriend were staying at the Island Travel Inn about three weeks ago when the incident occurred.

Blair told CTV Vancouver that she woke up with her partner on one side “and a strange body on the other side.”

“My first instinct was to push him out of the bed,” she said.

No one was hurt, but the couple had to fight to get the man out of the room.

Blair called police, but by the time they arrived, motel staff had already “shooed” the intruder off the property, she said.

Police eventually tracked the 25-year-old man down, but won’t be laying any charges.

“We definitely determined that alcohol did play a significant factor in this,” Victoria Const. Mike Russell said.

Blair called the decision not to lay charges “backwards.”  She said the door of her room was locked when the man somehow got inside. She said the motel refused her demand for a refund.

Island Travel Inn management did not answer questions about the incident on camera, but told CTV Vancouver that the couple’s door must have been left ajar.
