Officials and volunteers are still trying to recover all the remains of an 11-year-old girl who was killed on a remote Manitoba First Nation.

Earlier this month, the remains of Teresa Robinson were found on the Garden Hill First Nation after she had been reported missing. It was initially believed the girl was mauled by an animal, but police later announced that they were treating the case as a homicide.

No arrests have been made.

Teresa was laid to rest on Thursday as community members continued their search for more remains in hopes of bringing closure to her family.

“We’ve still got some small pieces that are missing that we want to recover,” George Leonard of Manitoba Search and Rescue told CTV Winnipeg.

“Once we can put that to rest I think the community will be a lot happier.”

Garden Hill Chief Arnold Flett said the community is trying to cope with the tragedy.

"Even if we don't find all remains, we know that we did our best, all we can do," he said.

Garden Hill First Nation is a fly-in community located 500 kilometres northeast of Winnipeg.
