2. Harper shoots down inquiry calls: Prime Minister Stephen Harper said police investigations, not an inquiry, are the best way to deal with crimes involving missing and murdered aboriginal women. Speaking at a news conference in Whitehorse on Thursday, Harper was responding to renewed calls for a national inquiry into such cases following the death of Tina Fontaine, a 15-year-old aboriginal girl whose body was found in Winnipeg’s Red River earlier this week. Double homicide rocks rural P.E.I.: A 46-year-old man has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder after the bodies of a father and his adult son were found at a home in rural Prince Edward Island. The bodies of the two men were found at approximately 9:15 p.m. Wednesday, at a house in Kings County, south of Montague. Police have not identified the victims or revealed how they died.

4. E. coli outbreak in Alberta: Health officials in Alberta are investigating an E. coli outbreak, but have yet to pinpoint the source of the bacteria. Most are concentrated in Calgary and Edmonton, where officials have confirmed 62 and 48 cases, respectively.
