A voluntary recall of a variety of Smirnoff Ice products has been issued because of a possibility that bottles of the flavoured vodka drink contain small fragments of glass.

Smirnoff's parent company, Diageo Canada, said in a release Friday that it detected "quality issues" that could causes the pieces of glass to break off inside bottles purchased on or after July 24.

Diageo Canada says that they originated from a third-party glass manufacturer that supplies bottles to the company for use in Canada.

The voluntary recall affects 330 ml bottles that are sold individually as well as those bundled in packs of four and 12.

The following types of Smirnoff Ice are affected by the recall:

  • Four packs of Smirnoff Ice Peach Bellini 330 ml (L5204, L5231)
  • Four packs of Smirnoff Ice Green Apple 330 ml (L5205, L5232)
  • Four packs of Smirnoff Ice Raspberry 330 ml (L5205, L5232)
  • Four packs of Smirnoff Ice Cranberry & Lime 330 ml (L5205, L5206, L5232, L5233)
  • Twelve packs of Smirnoff Premium Mixed Drinks Variety Pack 330 ml (L5137, L5139, L5203, L5231)
  • Twelve packs of Smirnoff Ice 330 ml (L5210, L5236, L5237)
  • Four packs of Smirnoff Ice Watermelon Mimosa 330ml (L5206, L5233)
  • Four packs of Smirnoff Ice 330ml (L5207, L5208, L5236,L5237)
  • Four packs of Smirnoff Ice Light 330 ml (L5207, L5233, L5234)

  • Four packs of Smirnoff Orange ScrewDriver 330ml (L5206, L5207, L5234, L5235, L5236)

The company believes that "significantly less than one per cent of the bottles are impacted," and it has not received any reports from consumers.

Diageo Canada says that the Canadian Food Inspection Agency has been notified and they have made arrangements to remove the impacted bottles from stores.
