A fire and gravel spill snarled southbound traffic on Highway 400 near King Road near Aurora on Monday, leaving only two lanes open as crews work on cleanup. According to OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt, a truck hauling gravel caught fire while stopped on the shoulder. Flames and thick black smoke billowed from the vehicle, visible from a distance, before firefighters arrived and doused the blaze, replacing the dark smoke with thick white smoke as the fire was brought under control. Schmidt said no one was injured, but he noted extensive cleanup was underway due to the gravel spill surrounding the damaged truck. Police say motorists should expect delays for several hours before all lanes are fully reopened.
