‘Will you marry me’: Manitoba farmer writes proposal in field

Manitoba farmer writes marriage proposal in field An East Selkirk farmer proposed to his girlfriend through a message ploughed into his field.

A Manitoba farmer is preparing to get hitched, after planning an elaborate marriage proposal written into a field.

John Yokimas took his girlfriend of more than 3 years, Sally Hnatiuk, for a plane ride on Friday. While up in the air, they flew over something surprising on the ground.

The words “I love u Sally. Will u marry me?” were written in a wheat field.

The East Selkirk farmer said Hnatiuk was in shock when she saw it, and immediately said “yes” to the romantic gesture.

“It was a little crowded in the plane. It’s a hard to get down on one knee,” Yokimas said.

Shortly after he popped the question, Yokimas put an engagement ring on his soon-to-be wife’s finger.

“As you can imagine I was pretty shocked,” Hnatiuk added. “I thought the surprise was the plane ride, so to see he even had even more plans was amazing.”

Hnatiuk said everyone knows her fiancée as ‘Farmer John’, and he’s always been a romantic.

“If anyone says chivalry is dead, they haven’t met John,” she said. “It has been so overwhelming,” she added.

Yokimas said he always wanted to propose to his future bride by inscribing a message in his field. He spent a month planning the big moment.

The couple is planning to tie the knot in fall 2017.
