Where the Wild Things Are inspired mural in the works in West End

Winnipeg artist paints new mural in West End Cash Akoza is painting the mural at the corner of Furby Street and Ellice Avenue to help grow Winnipeg’s art scene.

An artist who painted Cecil the Lion on a Wolseley garage last summer has painted a new mural in the West End.

Cash Akoza is painting his latest work at the corner of Furby Street and Ellice Avenue.

He said he hopes the artwork helps grow Winnipeg's street art scene. Akoza focuses his work on areas of the city with a bad reputation.

His new mural was made possible through the help of the Spence Neighbourhood Association. The theme is inspired by the children's story "Where the Wild Things Are."

“I’m really inspired by seeing the kids and the youths and the parents. The kids come by with a big smile on their faces," Akoza said.

"What I’m trying to do is spark imagination in grownups and in kids.”

The two-storey mural is made of acrylic and aerosol paint. Akoza hopes it will help create a safe space and community pride.
