Two people arrested after man thrown to the ground, robbed: Winnipeg police

The Winnipeg Police Service has made two arrests after a 19-year-old man was robbed and assaulted in downtown Winnipeg.

According to police, the incident began around 6 p.m. on Tuesday when the victim was walking down Furby Street between Cornish and Wolseley avenues and was approached by two people who asked for a cigarette.

Police allege the victim was then thrown to the ground, assaulted and robbed of his cellphone. He suffered minor injuries.

Officers investigated and used CCTV footage of the area to obtain a detailed description of the suspects and determine their location.

Around 7:30 p.m., officers arrested a man and woman at a home in the 0-99 block of Furby Street. The victim’s property was recovered.

A 23-year-old woman and 25-year-old man both face charges of robbery. They were released on an undertaking.

The charges have not been proven in court.
