Spinal Cord Injury Program at HSC Winnipeg first in Canada to receive accreditation

The Spinal Cord Injury Program at the Health Sciences Centre is one of the first in Canada to be accredited under new standards.

“We are pleased to congratulate the WRHA and HSC Winnipeg on demonstrating leadership by being early adopters of SCI-specific standards, and providing excellent and reliable SCI care in Canada,” said Rick Hansen Insitute CEO, Bill Barrable.

The evidence-based standards for spinal cord care were developed by the Rick Hansen Insitute and Accreditation Canada.

The Winnipeg Regional Health Authority's program underwent review this past spring, achieving ratings of 99 and 100 per cent.

The interdisciplinary team at HSC provides specialized trauma, orthopedic and rehabilitative care , among many other services, to approximately 50 to 60 people with spinal cord injuries each year.

“Manitoba is proud to offer care and research expertise that supports people who experience a spinal cord injury,” said Milton Sussman, president of the WRHA.
