Saskatoon man charged following armed robbery in Dauphin

A Saskatoon man has been charged following an armed robbery in Dauphin earlier this week.

RCMP said it happened Sunday evening at a store on Main Street South. An employee told police a man walked in and demanded cash from the register. Police said his face was covered and he was holding a gun.

Mounties said the employee was not injured during the robbery; however, the man did make off with some money. Police didn’t say how much.

The RCMP got the call around 8:30 p.m. and immediately started searching the area with police dogs and remote aircraft.

One of the dogs led officers to a bag in an alley, which had clothing matching the description of the alleged robber. Officers then found a suspect in the back lane of 6th Avenue SE.

RCMP said he was arrested without incident.

Police charged a 23-year-old man from Saskatoon, Sask., with robbery with a firearm, pointing a firearm, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and weapons possession contrary to an order.

The charges against him have not been proven in court. He remains in custody with a court date set for Tuesday.
