More portions of Whiteshell Provincial Park are set to open this week after out-of-control wildfires forced its closure.

In the latest wildfire bulletin Tuesday, the province said the fire burning in the Mantario wilderness zone (fire EA063) is still out of control, but suppression efforts are holding the line, meaning people will have more access to the park.

Starting on Wednesday at 8 a.m., Crowduck Lake and Big Whiteshell Lake will reopen to residents, cottagers, and commercial operations.

Then at 4 p.m., Florence Lake, Nora Lake and Ophir Siding will reopen.

Campgrounds in Big Whiteshell Lake will also start to reopen with a phased-in approach. Seasonal campers will be allowed back starting June 13.

“The Mantario Wilderness Zone remains closed, including the Mantario Hiking Trail and Caddy Lake tunnels. Anyone returning to the reopened areas is advised to be prepared to evacuate again with little notice,” the province said in the bulletin.

There are currently 25 wildfires burning in the province and a total of 116 in 2025.
