Feds pledge $200k to end domestic violence against women through work with men, boys

Nearly $200,000 is going to the Broadway Neighbourhood Centre for a unique new project that will work toward ending violence against women and girls by engaging men and boys.

The federal government offered the money to the organization, which was presented at the centre on Wednesday.

“Young men between 15 and 25 will be engaged to end violence against women and girls,” said Joyce Bateman, MP for Winnipeg South Centre, “encouraging community-based leadership and collaboration between men’s and women’s networks.”

She says the money will be used to run a 2-year program about domestic violence directed at men and boys.

The project is expected to improve the safety and security of women and girls in the West Broadway area of downtown Winnipeg.
