Air quality warnings across Manitoba

Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) is warning of smoky conditions and poor air quality across Manitoba.

As of Friday at 6 a.m., the weather agency issued special air quality statements for over 100 Manitoba communities, including Winnipeg and Brandon.

It notes the poor air quality is being brought on by the wildfires in northern Manitoba and Saskatchewan.

To stay safe, ECCC is reminding Manitobans to limit time outside, keep windows and doors shut, and protect your indoor air from wildfire smoke with a good quality air filter in your ventilation system. Those who must spend time outside are encouraged to wear a respirator-type mask to reduce exposure.

The people who are most likely to be impacted by poor air quality are those over the age 65, pregnant people, infants and young kids, those with chronic health conditions and anyone who works outside. ECCC notes that you should seek medical attention if you are experiencing any symptoms, including headaches; eye, nose and throat irritation; wheezing; chest pains or coughing.
