Colleen Bready’s forecast: Conditions looking good for Whiteout Street Party

Conditions are shaping up nicely for a great Winnipeg Whiteout Street Party on Wednesday.

Expect sunshine, light winds, and temperatures climbing into the low 20s in the afternoon.

Pleasant conditions will help keep the party going in the evening with a clear sky, light winds and warm temperatures in the upper teens.

Southwestern Manitoba will also be sunny and warm Wednesday, but south winds will strengthen and gust in the afternoon. That will bring the potential for local smoke for areas around Dauphin and Swan River.

With the exception of cloudy skies over Tadoule Lake and Churchill, the rest of northern Manitoba will see sunshine or a mix of sun and cloud Wednesday afternoon.

South winds will be gusty in most areas, too. This is particularly noteworthy for The Pas and Opaskwayak Cree Nation where smoke from wildfires southwest of those communities could move in.

A low-pressure system expected to shoot out of Alberta could bring rain to the north by late Thursday afternoon that would turn to snow in the northeast Thursday night.

The low will also bring the heat Thursday, with temperatures soaring into the sunny upper 20s in the south, and upper teens and low 20s in the north.

In Winnipeg and the southeast, strong and gusting south winds will develop early Thursday morning, helping to draw in the warm air mass.

Overnight rain is possible in the south Thursday into Friday.
