Retail theft leads to identity theft charges: CKPS

The Chatham-Kent Police Service has laid identity theft charges in connection with a theft investigation.

On Friday just before 10 a.m., police were called to a report of two people allegedly stealing from a Chatham business.

When police arrived on scene, two men were found and arrested. One was a 31-year-old man from Brampton and the other was a 32-year-old man of no fixed address.

During the arrest, the CKPS said it seized 10 identity cards, more than 10 credit cards and gift cards, all believed to belong to the two suspects.

Now, both men are facing charges for theft under $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, possession of an identity document, and possession of a scheduled substance.

When the two suspects were taken to police headquarters, it was revealed they are wanted by other police services across the province on similar charges.
