Kayakers tipped over in Detroit River, not wearing lifejackets

A pair of kayakers are lucky to be alive after their boat was overturned by a wake from a large vessel in the Detroit River Saturday.

Around 10 a.m., the kayakers -- neither of whom where wearing lifejackets-- were paddling in the Detroit River when they were over taken by a large vessel.

The pair were tipped over and entered the water.

The two swam to the seawall in front of Coast Guard Station Belle Isle.

One of the individuals self rescued and the the other was pulled out of the water by the officer of the day.

They were treated and released.

The Coast Guard is reminding boaters of the importance of wearing lifejackets at all times.

The names of the individuals rescued are not being released by the Coast Guard.
