Essex OPP Constable representing Ontario at Special Olympics World Games in Italy

An Essex OPP Constable is headed to Torino, Italy, representing Ontario at the Special Olympics World Games.

Const. Jim Chauvin will partake in the final leg of the torch relay, taking the torch flame into the stadium, lighting the cauldron at opening ceremonies.

Chauvin has raised awareness and money for Special Olympics athletes through the Law-Enforcement Torch Run for the last 23 years.

He acts as the local coordinator, previously acting as the zone coordinator and was on the provincial operations committee. Chauvin is also one of the original organizers of Essex’s polar plunge, which has raised around $500,000 to date.

The officer said he was “hooked after meeting some local athletes at his first torch run.” He takes pride in representing the OPP at the events.
