Diageo workers give strike notice in Amherstburg

Backing their local's demand for new investment, union members at an Amherstburg bottling plant have voted unanimously in favour of a strike.

Unifor Local 2098 president, D.J. Lacey says job security at Diageo is the top priority; not wages or benefits.

Lacey characterizes the pace of talks as slow since the two sides began negotiations in November. If no progress is made, more than 300 workers could be on the picket line before next month. Nearly 70 of them are on layoff.

Two Crown Royal product lines have been relocated to plants outside of the province.
