TORONTO - Canadian film and TV star William Shatner will host this year's Genie Awards.

The "Star Trek" captain says he's looking forward to seeing many of his friends at next month's televised bash.

The Genies celebrate the year's biggest achievements in Canadian film.

Leading nominees include the big screen adaptation of Mordecai Richler's book, "Barney's Version," and Denis Villeneuve's searing family drama, "Incendies," which is also up for a best foreign-language film Oscar.

Big-name stars battling for acting trophies include Paul Giamatti, Dustin Hoffman, Rosamund Pike and Minnie Driver of "Barney's Version," as well as Jay Baruchel of "The Trotsky," and Timothy Olyphant for "High Life."

Musical performances and celebrity presenters will be announced in the coming weeks.
