Head of NHL alumni group provided info about concussion lawsuit to league

The head of the association representing retired NHL players provided a league executive with a document summarizing a meeting held by former players engaged in the concussion lawsuit against the league, a CTV News/TSN exclusive has found.

NHL hockey commissioner Gary Bettman listens as he meets with reporters after a meeting with team owners, in New York on Sept. 13. The NHL locked out its players at midnight Saturday, becoming the third major sports league to impose a work stoppage in the last 18 months. The action also marks the fourth shutdown for the NHL since 1992, including a year-long dispute that forced the cancellation of the entire 2004-05 season when the league held out for a salary cap. Link between fighting, concussions, discussed in unsealed emails

A U.S. federal court in Minneapolis has unsealed a trove of sensitive emails sent between high-ranking NHL executives, including one email exchange in which NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly links fighting in hockey to "personal tragedies."
