Traffic disruptions persist after Games end

Cambie Street Bridge was closed to traffic on Feb. 10, 2010, to allow for the dress rehearsal of the 2010 Opening Ceremony at BC Place.

The 2010 Olympic Winter Games may be officially closed, but the traffic disruptions are far from over.

Both the Georgia and Dunsmuir viaducts, both key commuter routes in and out of downtown Vancouver, remain shut down Monday. Both will reopen in time for Tuesday's morning rush hour.

Closures around the Vancouver Olympic and Paralympic Village, including Columbia, Cook, Crowe, Manitoba and Ontario streets, remain in effect until March 24. First Avenue between Quebec and Wylie will stay blocked off until March 31.

Closures on Pacific and Expo boulevards near BC Place and Canada Hockey Place remain in effect until March 15.

Street shutdowns around the main media centre were lifted Monday.

Midlothian Avenue and Ontario Street, two streets near the Vancouver Olympic Centre/Vancouver Paralympic Centre, will both reopen to traffic Wednesday.

Some Olympic lanes are still in place to help visitors make their way home.

Olympic officials are hoping commuters will continue to use transit as their primary mode of transport into and out of Vancouver.

Vancouver's transit authority shattered bus and subway ridership records during the 2010 Games, accompanied by a 30 per cent reduction in vehicle traffic.
