Surrey police seek help identifying scooter theft suspect

Police in Surrey are asking for the public’s help to identify a suspect accused of stealing a single mother’s electric scooter earlier this month.

The theft took place around 2:50 p.m. on May 6, when the victim parked her scooter outside the Walmart at Central City Mall on King George Boulevard, according to police. When she returned about 15 minutes later, the scooter was gone.

“The victim, a single mother who uses the scooter as her primary mode of transportation, is hoping for the recovery and return of her scooter as soon as possible, as being without it has significantly impacted her ability to support her family,” reads a news release from the Surrey Police Service issued Monday.

The suspect was caught on surveillance video getting on the blue scooter and driving away toward 102 Avenue. Police describe him as a “scruffy looking” white man, between 30 and 50 years old, with a “slim build” who is about 5’7” tall. At the time, he was wearing black shoes, dark pants, a grey hoodie with the Reebok logo, a white baseball cap, and sunglasses.
