Drivers using Highway 1 to get out of Surrey Friday morning experienced major delays after a semi-truck blocked all westbound lanes.

Just before 8 a.m., the truck crashed into a highway barrier, according to police, who say the driver appears to have suffered a medical event but is expected to recover.

Traffic squeezed through using the pull-off near 176th Street.

Just after 10 a.m., DriveBC said the truck had been towed away and the highway would reopen shortly after crews cleaned up the scene.

BC Emergency Health Services told CTV News it sent two ambulances to the scene, but there were no patients requiring transport to hospital.
