Puppy found with extensive rope burns

The City of Surrey and the BC SPCA are looking for the owner of a pitbull puppy suffering from severe rope burns and multiple ailments.

Kim Marosevich with the Surrey Animal Care Centre said the little dog was brought in earlier this week by a stranger who saw her on the side of the road around 106 Avenue and 137A Street in Surrey.

The burns on the six-week-old puppy’s face suggest that someone had either used rope or a piece of twine to tie her muzzle shut, Marosevich said.

“At this point in time we’re looking for who her previous owner may have been,” she said. “At this point, I’m concerned about whether or not there are any puppies remaining in that individual’s care that are in the same circumstances.”

The unidentified puppy is also suffering from an eye infection, a significant flea infestation, malnourishment, and bad bone development. She is now in 24-hour foster care and is being treated by a veterinarian everyday.

“We are certainly not out of the woods yet,” said Marosevich. “Her eyes have gotten worse, the infection is getting progressively worse, and she’s on antibiotic treatment as well as a variety of ointments.”

The SPCA has launched an investigation.
