Police, rescuers searching for man missing for weeks on Vancouver Island

Police say a 26-year-old man who has been missing on Vancouver Island for nearly a month will be the focus of a dedicated search effort this weekend.

Austin Lloyd was last seen on April 14, and was reported missing approximately 10 days later, according to a news release Thursday from the Island District RCMP.

Investigators are concerned for his health and well-being, police said.

Various RCMP detachments across northern Vancouver Island, including in Port Hardy, Port McNeill and Alert Bay, have been collecting information and following up on tips about Lloyd’s possible whereabouts, police said.

Volunteers with Campbell River Search and Rescue will conduct a search in the Port Hardy area on May 10. Police are asking drivers to use caution along Highway 19 between Port Hardy and Port McNeill throughout the day while searchers are in the area.
