Police investigating homicide after body found near Kamloops, B.C.

Mounties in Kamloops, B.C., are investigating a suspected homicide after their pursuit of a stolen vehicle led them to the discovery of human remains.

Police say the body of 43-year-old Dylan Thomas Godfrey of Kamloops was found on April 25 in the Paul Lake area, northeast of the city.

The local RCMP had been investigating a stolen vehicle, leading to the arrest of three men for possession of stolen property and failing to comply with court orders, according to a statement Tuesday.

“Unfolding circumstances around this investigation led investigators to locate a deceased man,” the statement said, confirming the victim met with foul play.

The B.C. RCMP’s Southeast District major crime unit has assumed conduct of the investigation.

Police have not revealed the connection between the three men, the vehicle and the remains, but said a residence linked to the men in the city’s North Shore neighbourhood was secured while investigators waited to obtain a search warrant.

“Investigators believe that Dylan Thomas Godfrey’s death was an isolated event and that no threat to the public exists,” Staff Sgt. Jason Smart said in the statement.

Police are looking to speak with anyone with video from Paul Lake Road, the Halston Bridge Connector the North Shore area between 6 a.m. on April 23 and 7 a.m. on April 25.

“In addition, if anyone had communication with, or dealings with Dylan Thomas Godfrey, from April 14 and onwards, they are also asked to call the Southeast District Information Line” at 1-877-987-8477, the statement said.
