Police investigating fatal crash in New Westminster

Police in New Westminster are investigating a fatal single-vehicle collision earlier this month.

The New Westminster Police Department says the crash occurred at approximately 11:40 a.m. on April 3 near the intersection of Cumberland Street and East 7th Avenue.

One person was transported to hospital from the scene with “what appeared at the time to be non-life-threatening injuries,” the department said in a statement Monday.

“However, two days later, investigators learned that person had died.”

The statement said police are now investigating “all the contributing factors” in the crash.

“Our major crime unit has taken conduct of this investigation,” Sgt. Andrew Leaver said in the statement. “This is a tragic event and our thoughts are with the family of this individual.”
