Police execute search warrant in Alberta more than a year after B.C. homicide

Mounties investigating a homicide in B.C.’s Shuswap region are renewing their appeal for information from the public after executing a search warrant in Alberta in connection to the case this week.

The B.C. RCMP’s Southeast District Major Crime Unit executed a search warrant in the Auburn Bay area of Calgary on Thursday, according to a news release the unit issued Friday.

Police did not share any details about what, if anything, was seized during the search.

The investigation began Feb. 24, 2024, when 38-year-old Matthew Monteith was killed in a targeted shooting in Sicamous, B.C.

The shooting occurred in the parking lot of the Best Western Hotel at 806 Trans-Canada Highway, police said at the time.

They asked the public for help identifying a vehicle seen speeding away from the scene, and also solicited surveillance video from the area.

In their update Friday, police once again asked the public to assist with their investigation.

“We’re asking for anyone with information related to the circumstances of Matthew Monteith’s death to contact the Southeast District Major Crime Unit,” said Staff Sgt. Jason Smart, the officer in charge of the SED MCU.

“Any information, no matter how insignificant it might seem, may be of great interest to the investigation and help to determine what led to his death.”

Those with information to share are asked to call the SED MCU information line at 1-877-987-8477, police said.
