Kelly Ellard to appeal latest conviction

The B.C. Court of Appeal will hear an appeal of Kelly Ellard's conviction in the killing of Victoria teen Reena Virk on Wednesday.

Ellard went through three trials before being found guilty of second-degree murder in Virk's death in 2005, and is currently serving a life sentence with no possibility of parole.

If successful, the appeal could potentially lead to a fourth trial in the case.

In 1997, when she was only 14 years old, Reena Virk was swarmed, beaten and drowned by a group of teens under the Gorge waterway near Victoria.

The attack that sparked outrage across the country.

Ellard's first conviction was overturned on appeal, the second ended in a hung jury, and then convicted in the third trial.

Warren Glowatski was also found guilty of second-degree murder. He was granted day parole last June.

Six teenage girls were convicted of assault in connection with the incident.
