Farmer says body found in blueberry field shot multiple times

IHIT called after body found in farmer’s field Homicide investigators were called to Abbotsford Thursday after a body was found in a blueberry field.

A man found dead in an Abbotsford blueberry field Wednesday looked like he’d been shot multiple times, according to the farmer who made the grim discovery.

Boota Poonia and his wife noticed the body shortly before 5 p.m. on their property near Boundary and No 3 roads. Poonia said the deceased was covered in blood and there were several apparent bullet holes in the man’s side.

“I saw I think… three or four small holes,” he told CTV News.

Poonia said he hadn’t been to that area of the field for three days prior to the discovery, so the body could have been there a while.

The victim appeared to be white and in his early 30s. He was wearing a baseball cap that covered part of his face.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team was called to the take conduct of the case, but has released few additional details except to confirm the death appears suspicious.

“We’re currently in the preliminary stages of a very thorough investigation. All of these facts will be determined through the course of the investigation,” Sgt. Judy Bird said.

A forensic tent remained at the scene of the discovery on Thursday.
