Drive-through grocery shopping comes to Vancouver

You've heard of drive-through restaurants – even drive-through banks – so why not drive-through grocery stores?

If the service sounds good to you then you’re in luck, because it’s already available in Vancouver.

“I think it’s awesome!” said Superstore shopper Carrie Elms when she heard about it.

Elms has three-year-old twins and a busy schedule, and like most shoppers doesn’t like fighting the crowds to get her groceries. Loblaw Group of Companies is banking on people like her to click onto their new service.

It’s called Click & Collect. Just shop online, click the products you want, and then collect them at the store. Loblaw and Superstore locations in the Vancouver area will have personal shoppers on site to fill the orders and bring them to your car at your desired pickup time.

“You can place orders two weeks out. You can place them four hours out,” Loblaw Digital Marketing Director Lauren Steinberg explained.

Stores offering the service have specially marked parking spots for Click & Collect shoppers. Just alert the store when you are in the lot and they will bring out your order.

There’s a convenience fee for the service – between $3 and $5 depending on the time of week.

On Nov. 12 the service started in Vancouver, Kelowna and Coquitlam and Langley. Three more are on tap for North Vancouver, Pitt Meadows and a second location in Kelowna.
