Caution urged after 17 pedestrians hit in 7 days

CTV BC: Pedestrians warned after string of hit-and ICBC stats show intersections at Cambia and Georgia, and Commercial and Broadway have had the most pedestrian related collisions in the past five Decembers.

More than a dozen pedestrians have been hit by vehicles in B.C. in the last week, prompting warnings to use extra caution on the road.

Two pedestrians were struck Thursday morning, one on Hastings and Burrard streets in Vancouver, and one in Langley on the corner of 72A Avenue and 200^th Street, according to Scan BC.

On Wednesday night, four pedestrians were hit by cars in Vancouver, one in Richmond, one in Langley, and one in Kamloops.

None of the recent collisions involved fatalities, but two of the victims were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

In the last week, several pedestrians have been struck by cars, including three hit-and-run crashes, and one fatality.

On Tuesday, a pedestrian was struck on Fort Street in Victoria, police said.

Mounties are seeking the driver of a white crossover vehicle who injured two female joggers and fled the scene in Surrey Monday night.

On Sunday, a mother of two was killed in a hit-and-run in East Vancouver.

Another driver fled the scene after critically injuring a person in a collision in a Surrey intersection on Friday.

A week ago, three pedestrians were hit during the same day in separate incidents in North Vancouver, according to police.

The string of pedestrian-involved crashes has prompted police and ICBC to issue a warning urging pedestrians and drivers to be more careful, especially at night in rainy weather.
