Two arrested after illegal grow-op, 16 animals discovered in Etobicoke home

CTV Toronto: 15 dogs found in Etobicoke raid Toronto police arrested two people after allegedly discovering marijuana plants and 14 dogs in an Etobicoke house. Tamara Cherry reports.

Two suspects are in custody after Toronto police discovered an illegal marijuana grow-op in Etobicoke.

The discovery was made at approximately 3 p.m. on Sunday during a police raid at a home in the area of Kipling Avenue and Rathburn Road.

Police originally responded to a medical call at the residence, but officers discovered an undisclosed number of marijuana plants as well as 15 dogs and a cat at the residence.

Investigators were later seen carrying several butane cylinders out of the house -- a chemical which can be used to extract and condense THC, the ingredient in marijuana that makes the user high.

Police have yet to confirm what the chemical was being used for, but the discovery means the operation was also a dangerous one because butane is also highly explosive.

It is unclear what kind of charges the two suspects in custody will face.

The animals discovered on the property were taken away by Toronto Animal Services, who said the pets were all in good health.

The animals will remain in city-run shelters until their owner reclaims them or they are put up for adoption.
