Suspect connected to 1970s sexual assault case in Vaughan charged with indecent assault of boy, police say

Police said they have laid indecency charges against a 67-year-old man in connection with the sexual assault of a boy in the 1970s in Vaughan and other cities.

A man came forward in January 2014 and spoke to the York Regional Police Special Victims Unit. He told them he was sexually assaulted by the same man for several years of his childhood.

The first incident he noted occurred when he was 12-years-old in 1974, according to police.

The child was playing hockey at an arena in Woodbridge, where he was in contact with a man who helped out with the sports team as a trainer.

Police said the man became friendly with the boy and offered him rides home from the arena. Police were told the boy was sexually assaulted on those rides between October 1974 and March 1976.

During the same time period, the child was brought to the man’s family home in Quebec and to his cottage in Huntsville, police said.

Police allege the child was assaulted on these occasions as well.

Nicolas Cadorette, from Abottsford, B.C. turned himself into police on June 14. He is expected to appear in court in Newmarket on July 19.
