Man arrested following series of vehicle thefts in GO Train lots

A 41-year-old Brantford-area man has been arrested after a string of vehicle thefts in GO Train parking lots.

In a statement released Thursday afternoon, police say a total of nine vehicles have been reported stolen from GO Train lots located in Pickering, Whitby and Oshawa, between Sept. 3 and Oct. 15. Two other vehicles were also damaged in attempted thefts. Police say Chevrolet and GMC pickup trucks from the late 1990s to the early 2000s were targeted in the GO Train-lot robberies.

After reviewing security surveillance video, police were able to identify a suspect. He was arrested on Oct. 23 in the GO Train Pickering lot. Police say the suspect, who had break-in tools hidden in a knapsack, arrived on a GO Train.

The investigation into the vehicle thefts is ongoing. Police say they are trying to determine if all the robberies are related.

Eugene White of Oshweken, Ont., faces 12 charges, including five counts of motor vehicle theft and possession of break-and-enter instruments.
