Driver dies after Milton GO train crashes into tow truck

The Mississauga tow truck driver who was struck by a GO train Friday morning is being described by his co-workers as a “super guy” who was a “hard worker.”

The man has been identified by friends as 54-year-old Randy Muzzi. He was a tow truck driver for over 30 years.

The collision happened between 9th line and 10th line, just east of Lisgar GO Station, shortly after the first Milton GO train departed at 6:30 a.m. on Friday.

Cost. George Tudos said the train “dragged” the tow truck approximately half a kilometre before coming to a stop.

It is believed the driver was responding to a minor multi-vehicle collision in the area at the time of the incident.

Steve Harvey, a GO inspector, said there were “indications” that the tow truck was within the signal area at the time of the impact.

“It was a tragic set of circumstances this morning, the train crew was shaken up by this,” Harvey told reporters.

Peel paramedics said the tow truck driver died at the scene. No one on the commuter train was injured, but all 172 people aboard had to remain on the train for two hours before it was evacuated.

While emergency crews worked to clean up the destruction, all morning train service on the Milton GO line was suspended. GO later said that, with the exception of the 3:40 p.m. train, all trains resumed on the Milton line.
