Brampton crash leaves one person dead

A crash in Brampton during the morning commute on Tuesday has left one person dead.

Emergency crews responded to reports of a collision on Highway 50 near Cottrelle Boulevard at around 9 a.m.

A transport truck and a car were involved in the crash.

Const. Akhil Mooken told reporters at the scene that the car was “dragged approximately 750 meters by the dump truck before it came to a stop.”

The driver of one of the vehicles involved succumbed to their injuries at the scene.

No other injuries have been reported.

“Upon arrival, a male driver from a vehicle was pronounced dead by paramedics and at this time investigators from our major collision bureau have taken over this investigation and are appealing for any witnesses to contact them with any dashcam or any other information they may have or to provide that information through Crime Stoppers,” Mooken said.

“It is still very early in this investigation and we are not able to determine what exactly happened and that is why it is important for us to hear from the witnesses so our investigators can put together the pieces of the puzzle here.”

Roads have been blocked off in the area as an investigation into the matter is conducted.
